The BizSlate Story

BizSlate was formed at the end of 2011 by CEO and founder Marc Kalman. With over 25 years of experience helping small and medium sized businesses (SMBs) in wholesale distribution and manufacturing, he knew firsthand what life is like: Controlled (and sometimes not so controlled) chaos, working to keep businesses growing, making sure customers are happy, and solving problems. He also knew that these small, but growing businesses needed to become nimble and efficient to sustain themselves in a harshly global competitive landscape. Unfortunately, business management software for small businesses had been proven time and time again to not understand what small businesses need to effectively compete in today’s marketplace, and the systems that offered the necessary value were complex, expensive, and targeted to their larger competitors. Kalman believed there had to be a better way. With BizSlate he set out to change all that and make a difference.

While CEO and co-founder of his previous company eZCom Software, a leading Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) provider with a track record of innovation and significant improvement of supply chain efficiency and accuracy for SMBs, Kalman started receiving inquiries from customers who were struggling with inadequate business management systems to develop capabilities beyond just an EDI system. They needed help with inventory control, order management, real-time business intelligence, and much more. He also noted many of these businesses were using QuickBooks and spreadsheets, and were trying to make do with limited capabilities.

Enter BizSlate

The first SaaS solution designed specifically for small businesses with the features, performance and value of large enterprise systems delivered in a very easy to use, cost effective, mobile solution. Unlike most small business applications that start life as accounting systems (systems of record) with core functionality derived from outdated accounting-based constructs, BizSlate is designed from the supply chain and operations perspective, focusing on solving an SMB’s biggest and most immediate business issues that they face on a daily basis.
